July 25 2007 UPS was here again today. Got my new exhaust gaskets, locking headers bolts, sway bars end links and dipstick tube. LOL The one on the car is cracked, but was "fixed" Mac style with electrical tape. Been like that since I bought it. So I figured what the hey, might as well fix that while I am at it. I spent some extra $ and went for the Lokar piece. The car is no where near "show ready" but maybe someday it will be. Also stopped and got my exhaust donuts, and ubolt straps along a u joint just in case. I'm still not quite sure on the whole thing, whether or not I need a special one. Either case I skipped going to the 4x4 shop and with any luck I don't even have to change anything. |
July 24 2007 The UPS driver rocks! My TA Performance rear end cover for the Dana44 was finally delivered today. Had to be signed for by the neighbors. This was attempt #3 The UPS guy will be back again tomorrow and the following day. This weekend I got some stuff done. The headers are out and one is painted. I ran out of paint so I need to pick up some more. I'll be cleaning up the header flanges a little to clean up the welds and promote better flow. The car is getting closer. It won't be long now before I can fire her up again. |
July 15 2007I kinda got frustrated and stopped posting I guess. The car is going no where fast. It's a bit overwhelming all that needs to still be done. Seems like everytime I start something, I have to put it aside and wait.. either for new parts, or to get something done that I just can't because I need the right tools. Nothing ever goes easy of course. My rear end cover finally shipped which is nice. Guess they had a long list of backorders to fill. Should be in later this week. I have to drop the new differential off to get new bearings pressed on. Then when I pick that up drop off the driveshaft for an adapter u-joint. I also need to find u-joint straps and bolts. Oh so much fun.
I am going to order some sound deading stuff for the firewall since I have to pull the dash out anyway to clean up from the mice. They ruined the old padding so I might as well spend more $ and do it right while eveything is out. I can replace the "new" heater core that has been leaking basically since I put it in. *sigh*
This weekend I put in the new steering linkage and painted it with rust proofing. I did my a arms as well. I also removed the Y pipe and cleaned that up and painted it. I'll be removing the headers to do the same as well as replace the gaskets and bolts. |
July 01 2007 More bees today. Remnants from yesterdays battle. They must hae been away from the nests at the time. They lost. I got a lot done with the car. Decided to use the A arms already on the car since they were less rusted and greasy. Well I figured out today what the noise from the front end was. I thought it was a bad wheel bearing initially since it didn't seem to do it right away, it was usually after driving several miles before it would start acting up. Was a nice snap sound going over bumps. I figured it might be a bad ball joint too.
Turns out.. the drivers side spring had snapped! Awesome. So I wasn't able to go a weekend without buying new parts for the car.
I went with the MOOG 5662 replacement springs since, while I do want to lower it at some point, I decided to go with the coil over setup. I am not "springing" ( ha ha ha ha ) for that right now though.
I tell ya.. it's going to be a whole different animal when I am done. The front end steering stuff is out now... was REAL loose.
I am inching closer to putting it back together. Hopefully the springs come in some time this week, along with the rust proof paint. Then I can put the front end all back together.
Wednesday I plan to finish up rebuilding the rear calipers. I'm not going to mount them yet, since I ordered a new differential, because the current one seems to be broken. The Detroit TruTrac is on backorder from Summit but supposed to be in yesterday according to the order form so maybe that can go back together next weekend too.
